Day 1: London to Dunkirk – The Journey BeginsToday marks the exciting start of our cycling journey from London to Munich and our Journey to Zero to Intersolar. Our adventure kicked off at the Solar Energy UK offices, surrounded by the enthusiasm and support of friends and colleagues from the renewable energy industry.
As we set off, the streets of London were alive with the morning hustle, but our group of riders brought a new kind of energy to the city. Riding through the heart of London, we were cheered on by passersby, each wave and shout of encouragement fueling our resolve. It was inspiring to see so many people taking an interest in our cause, a reminder of the importance of sustainable travel and renewable energy.
Our route took us to Greenwich, a fitting milestone on our first day. Known for its maritime history and as the home of Greenwich Mean Time, it felt like the perfect place to mark the beginning of our journey. Here, we waved goodbye to our fellow riders from the renewable energy industry, whose support has been invaluable. Their presence on this first leg was a testament to the collective commitment to a greener future.
With just Frank Dekker and myself now, the ride took on a new rhythm. The roads stretched out before us, leading us closer to our destination for the day: Dunkirk
Arriving in Dunkirk after a gorgeous wind pushed us east; exhilarated, we were greeted by the fading light of the day and the realisation of what we had accomplished. The first day of our journey had taken us from the bustling streets of London, across the English Channel, and into the heart of Europe. It's a powerful reminder of the distances we can cover, both physically and metaphorically, when we set our minds to it.
As we settle in for the night, our thoughts are already on tomorrow’s ride and the adventures that lie ahead. Today was just the beginning, and if it is any indication of what’s to come, this journey will be nothing short of extraordinary.
