In 2023, I set out from London and cycled to Munich to attend Intersolar. Along the way I was joined by Joachim Rupp and welcomed by friends in the solar industry— from Solar Energy UK in London to SolarPower Europe in Brussels, and finally into Munich being greeted by my colleagues at Trinasolar.

In 2024, the journey grew: Frank Dekker rode the full distance with me and Joachim (plus a few more industry friends) joined for stages along the way, again meeting like minded industry professionals along the way, this time Solar Energy UK, Solar Power Europe and the European Central Bank.

By 2025, the ride had become something bigger. Together with Frank and Joachim, we took a new route from London (hanging with Solar Energy UK and Global Solar Council (GSC)) through Paris (meeting Equans Solar & Storage), Strasbourg (European Parliament) and Basel (Basel Networking Beers), joined by more colleagues from across the renewables industry. We even had Felix Krause leading his very own Journey to Zero ride from Berlin, bringing his mad group to Munich to meet us at Intersolar. We also partnered with the amazing SolarAid to help raise money and awareness for all the important work they do.....

Each year, the ride has gained more meaning. What started as a personal challenge has become a shared movement — a reminder that the road to net zero isn’t travelled alone.

In 2026, we’re taking it to the next level with a new concept:

“What’s Your Journey to Zero?”

This time, there won’t just be one ride. There will be multiple routes, starting from multiple points in Europe including London, Frankfurt and Berlin, all converging on Munich in time for Intersolar. On the final day, we’ll aim to ride in together — united in purpose, powered by our renewable energy community.

And here’s the best part: we want you to get involved. Whether it’s a stage, a few days or creating your own journey to zero from somewhere else, we’d love love love you to join us; because just like the transition to clean energy, there’s no single path — but every journey counts.

So; my question to you is.

What’s your journey to zero?

My ride this year will revert back to a similar route from 2023 leaving London on Friday 12th June, heading to Brussels and then meandering towards the Rhine, following the river for a couple of days and then down to Munich arriving on Monday 22nd June. Route is finalised and the hotels are booked. Exciting.

To register your own journey to zero or join a ride being organised please head to www.journeyto0.com for details.

I'll be at Solar and Storage Live if you want to grab me for a chat about how you might want to get involved....
