In a world increasingly fuelled by the urgency to combat climate change, a dynamic duo is not merely riding bikes, but pedalling a powerful message. Tim Day and Frank Dekker, impassioned professionals in the renewable energy industry, are set to embark on a 10-day, 5-country cycling adventure from London to Munich, culminating at the World’s Leading Exhibition for the Solar Industry, the Intersolar conference.

Those active in the renewable energy space are driven not just by a job and a salary, but by doing the right thing. They are acutely aware of climate change and understand that by doing their job, accelerating the pace of renewable energy deployment, they are helping to create a world that ultimately burns no fossil fuels for the creation of electricity or movement of people and goods.

“Almost everyone in the renewable energy space also understands that this is not an overnight action, but a journey. We need to move towards zero fossil fuels, and we need to do that more aggressively than we are today”, says Frank Dekker, one of the riders.

Journey to Zero gives this mission visibility. For the annual meeting of minds in Intersolar in Munich Tim Day and Frank Dekker will be cycling from London to Munich on a 10-day, 5-country epic adventure. Along the way, they will meet like-minded riders in 4 cities, network and meet with industry leaders and spread the message of zero fossil fuels through pedal power. “We feel the bike ride will give the zero fossil fuels mission an outlet at a professional level.”

The journey starts on Friday the 7th June in London. The following ten days Tim and Frank will cross France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany to arrive in Munich on the 17th June.

Tim Day, who was the pioneer of Journey to Zero, cycled solo for 10 days to make it to Munich on the 16th of June 2023. In 2024 he is joined by Frank Dekker and together they will cycle the whole journey from London to Munich.

How can you get involved?

The journey starts in London and you can get involved right at the start. Starting at Solar Energy UK offices in Covent Garden, you will cycle across Tower Bridge to the zero meridian in Greenwich Park.

This 7 mile/10km cycle ride is open to all cyclists in the solar, wind and BESS community. The more riders, the more impact, you are invited to join us. Please register at www.journeyto0.com/events

Brussels (10th June), Frankfurt (13th June) and Munich (the 17th June), will each have their own meet-ups with a 7 mile/10km ride through these cities, with local renewable energy professionals invited to join the rides and amplify the message of the journey to zero fossil fuels. In Brussels we will meet at SolarPower Europe and in Frankfurt we will be guests of solar software leader Detra Solar.

Should you want to join for longer, interested riders can contact Tim or Frank or reach out via the website: www.journeyto0.com.
